CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 11U BLUE TEAM FOR WINNING RIPKEN CHESAPEAKE CLASSIC TOURNAMENT BY BEATING THE MH TIGERS 10-3 IN THE FINALS. THE TEAM PLAYED HARD THROUGHOUT THE TOURNAMENT AND COMPETED IN EVERY GAME! THESE BOYS HAVE GROWN AND IMPRESSED WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT!
The Generals closed out their 2017 season with a thrilling 10-7 victory over the Silk City Sluggers in the Bigs League AA championship game at Albertus Magnus High School in front of dozens of cheering fans.
The opportunistic Generals held a 3-1 lead heading into the third inning behind starting pitcher Aiden McCauley. But the usually solid Generals defense failed them in the third, as a pair of errors to start the inning led to five Silk City runs and an early exit for McCauley. Joe Tarantino was summoned to relieve McCauley, and got the Generals out of the inning without further damage.
In the bottom of the inning, the Generals showed their grit by responding to the big Silk City inning with one of their own. Hits by Beau Rottmann, Jake Silver, Tarantino, McCauley, and Ryan Portaro, plus three walks in the inning, resulted in six runs giving the home team a 9-6 lead they would not relinquish.
Tarantino was in complete command, retiring the Sluggers in order in the fourth inning before allowing a lone run in the fifth. After the Generals scratched another run in the fifth, Tarantino took the hill in the sixth and final inning and was not to be denied. With runners on first and second and two outs, he induced a lazy faly ball to center that Max VanZetta cradled for the final out as the Generals faithful erupted in joyful applause.
"I am so proud of the way the team competed and battled tonight, it was one of our finest efforts of the year," said victorious manager Nick Crouch, "it has been such a pleasure to work with this team this year and it feels great ending on such a high note. Just think of what we can accomplish next year as we continue to build as a program."
Long time General and current assistant coach Dennis Covert was emotional in the postgame huddle. "For those who have been with me for many years: Beau Rottmann, Jack Cahill, Michael Caterino, Joe DiGiacomo, Ryan Portaro, Max VanZetta, and my son Jimmy Covert, I say congratulations on all of your hard work and your unwavering belief that it will indeed pay off. To the newer members of the team: Joe Tarantino, Jake Silver, Joe Sclafani, and Aiden McCauley, I say thank you for helping us bring home this championship. They are not easy to get, so please don't ever forget how much it takes to be called CHAMPION!"
The Generals finished the 2017 campaign with a 27-19 record and one big, shiny trophy.

Our boys will be competing in a week long tournament of baseball that they will be sure to remember for the rest of lives! They will be playing competitive baseball with over 100 other teams from all over the United States. In addition, they will also have the opportunity to go to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and each player will be inducted in the Youth Baseball Hall of Fame. It's an opportunity that will only come once in a lifetime and it is ONLY offered at the 12 year old level, which is why they need your help!
In the next few months, these teams will be participating in various fundraising events to help offset their costs to participate in this prestigious tournament.
